Why I like Hollywood Movies over Hindi!!!

Was watching the hollywood movie BEDAZZLED. had watched it earlier but it was different watching it this time.

To begin with i feel most of the hollywood movies have some or the other message in them. Be it Spiderman ( with great power comes great responsibility), Kungfu Panda( nothing is impossible), stuart little( its all about the family)...are just some of the movies with great messages.

Bedazzled is about Jack(Brenden Frazer) a loser in his life. he trys to mingle with office colleagues but they make fun of him. He trys to befriend the only girl he likes in office but she doesnt recognise him. Then hot and sexy Devil( Liz Hurley) appears and grants him 7 wishes. but once the 7 wishes are fulfilled he has to give the devil his soul.

he wishes every thing from being rich and powerful ( she makes him a drug lord in Columbia) to smart and articulate( he turns out to be gay). Every time he wishes to be something there is something left he wished he would be. Example When is emotionally sensative guy he cant be strong....when is strong he cant be smart......when he is smart is not straight..so not all he wishes he becomes in one person. The devil tricks and puts him in jail as he doesnt want to make last wish and give away his soul. towards the end Jack realises that devil will always try to confuse you to give up your soul which is never yours in the first place give. it belongs GOD. Devil will make you wish for you to become like someone else. But in the end you see who you clearly are and what you truly want to be and what you are here to do. one will make mistakes along the way and everybody does. If you just open up your heart and mind you will get it. Jack also realises that wishing just doenst work...like all of us he wishes to be so many things and somebody would come along and turn the magic wand fulfill all his wishes...(which the devil actually does) and that things dont work out that in actual life by magic. ITS NOT HOW FAR WE GET IN LIFE THAT MATTERS...ITS HOW WE GET THERE MATTERS.

the best part is the movie is entertaining and hilarious and also with a good  message. Not one moment in the movie where you get bored. The actors also do a good job.

I wish that more and more Bollywood movies as well turn out to be entertaining and have some message in them rather than churning mindless superduper hits.

I know need to improve my writing skills, Just hoping I was able to put the message across.

TAZA REVIEW OF KICK...again tagging a few of you 

I saw kick with my mother in law ...coz my husband wanted to cook peacefully at home..kehne ka matlab yeh ki MENE KICK DEKHI NAHI MUJHE DIKHAI GAYI HAI...

Khair, anyways, beherhal - KICK is a normal mindless salman khan flick.As the dialog goes..MEIN DIL MEIN ATA HUN SAMAJ MEIN NAHI....meri bhi yeh samaj mein nahi aya ki why was kick made. few reasons why kick must have been made..

1) one fine day saajid nadiawala woke up and said i want to direct a film ....and there you have a KICK.

2) they discovered a new foreign location to shoot - poland and wanted to shoot there, story dint matter.

3) salmaan khan got bored of the dabaang franchise so he decided on another mindless film....wont be surprised if there is KICK 1.5//2 //3//4.

Salmaan khan(DEVI LAL SINGH) gets kick( fun) out of doing challenging, mindless, high on adrenaline things. the adrenaline rush they say. hence the name KICK. Literally, Seriously. It is not a name of the character. it is not the final kick that makes the goal and wins the match. this kick is nothing but THRILL OR PLEASURABLE EXCITMENT.wonder how it is going to go down with salmaan khan fans in the interiors and small towns where they will not even be able to understand this concept of kick.

So be it helping a friend elope with his girlfriend at the same time informing the girlfriends mother about the whole plan to make it more challenging, or fighting the gundas and getting arrested or using laptop upside down or to able to wirte with both hands or disocvering new thigns because you are a genius is all part of or for his KICK.

Hope you are getting the concept now. NO??. see DEVI LAL SINGH samajh mein nahi ata hai is liye rehne dein.

story in short - randeep hooda( forgot the character's name) is police inspector on mission to poland to catch the super intelligent thief DEVIL. also on the way decides to catch up with his marraige prospect Jaqueline fernandez( SHAINA). Shaina tells about her past love interest DEVI. by the way forgot to mention the jaqueline was the friend of the girl friend of salman's friend whom he helped to elope. So the story goes in flash back and Shaina fills in Randeep with the entire history of DEVI and why they broke up. Meanwhile Randeep tells her about his mission. What they dont know and we as audience know is DEVIL and DEVIL - AL SINGH are one and the same person. you see by now devil lal singh has started using his intelligence to do some high end robberies and turned into devil. (why he turned into devil is revealed in the end) his last target is nawazuddin shaikh ( sorry but i keep forgetting the character names) whom he will rob of millions in poland For randeep is right there to catch him.

With few mindless chases..in poland., inspite of the entire interpol beind him, inspite of his entire double decker bus falling off the bridge ...DEVIL fir bhi bach jata hai aur hindustan wapas aa jata hai. what i dint get is if fell in poland how come the interpol was not able to catch and how he came back to india...there is no connection.

In the end - nawazuddin shaikh is very well robbed of his money. the entire money is used by DEVI for saving countless india kids fighting terminal illness.( so this is reason why DEVI turned DEVIL) Randeep lets DEVI go free because of this, nobody knows who devil is . Randeep is removed from this mission. And guess who is the new inspector assigned job of catching the DEVIL- DEVI LAL SINGH himself.

Hein? samajh mein nahi aya. pehle hi bola tha. SAMAJH MEIN NAHI AYEGA.

some good points.

The music - HIMESSS RESAMIYA does a good job. JUMME KI RAAT HAI, MUJHE YAAR NA MILE, HANGOVER are songs that linger in you mind. also worht mentioning- salmaan dances in the dance bar on the song -SAATH SAMUNDER PAAR MEIN TERE ( old deviya bharti song) the song is still so good that although is was only played for 1 min or so it made me come back and listen to the song on youtube. Also now when i think of it - it must have been saajid's tribute to wife DVIYA).

Nawzuddin Shaikh is a superb, fantastic actor. He does a fantastic job as required by the character. hope to see more of him.

Cinematography and choreography of the few of the above mentioned songs is good.

Salmaan though getting old looks very very handsome in the movie.

Randeep hooda looks smart and does a good a job, but did not except this to be his next movie after HIGHWAY. guy has potential can do better - i mean better films.

Others..

the less said about Jaquiline fernandez, mithun chakroborty and archana puran singh the better. Jaqueline is just a pretty face...can act a little ..dances well has bloody good figure and thats a it.. dont see her doing wonders in the film industry unless ofcourse supported by Big actors like you know who.

So doston...itna sab likhene padhne ke baad....banane walon ki samajh toh kya kehne...aap apni samajh lagaiye ki yeh movie dekhni chahiye ya nahi..

Rating - I would give 2 ...1 for nazwazzuddin and randeep...1 for the songs...but i am deducting 0.5 for bad story, nonsensical ending. so its 1.5 out of 5

P. S 1 - Trailor of MARDANI looks good. Singham Returns is the usual.

P.S 2- in the review of EK VILLAIN I wrote siddarth malhotra does not have any expressions on his face. Read on the cover page of STARDUST..he says - I WANT TO SILENCE MY CRITICS..Well I am one of them. 

HUMPTY SHARMA KI DULHANIA!!

Read in the newspapers..HUMPTY SHARMA KI DULHANIA fails to create the magic of DIL WALE DULHANIA LE JAYENGE.

It doesnt have to. Cause it has its own space. Its a watchable film. Watchable for Varun Dhawan As HUMPTY SHARMA- seriously he has done a good job. For Alia Bhat as KAVYA PRATAP SINGH- jo paida hi hot hui thi as she says in the film. For Ashutosh Rana( Kavya’s father – a welcome suprise), for the two support actors as humptys friends, they successfully manage to stand out with their excellent acting, for some uncliched twists and turns and for some hilarious moments.

Humty sharma is cool delhi guy with 2 friends. He is vidya book center ka akela varis. Incomes Kavya to buy designer lehenga for her own wedding from ambala to delhi. Meets humpty. Humpty gets feelings for her and helps her in all possible ways to not only to get designer lehenga but also to help her just to be married friend from her blackmailing  ex-boy friend.

Time for Kavya to leave for  her own wedding to ambala even tough the two love each other. Humpty follows her to ambala and tries to woo her family. One twist that i liked Kavya’s father asking humpty to spend time with the Kavyas groom- Siddarth shukla as ANGAD, to find out why angad is not suitable and humpty is suitable to marry kavya. What follows is hilarious turn of events. Ending is pretty obvious.

Biggest let down of the film – the music...not at all catchy. Dont remember a single song. Except for mein tenu samjhawan which was already popular due to rahat fateh ali.

2^nd let down – Siddarth shukla...he needs to get rid of his BALIKA VADHU smile( GOD thts irritating) Needs to improve alot.

There are many light and hilarious moments in the film( special mention the guest house situation and the gay situation), which make you breeze through it.

Rating -  3.5/ 5. slightly above avg. 0.5 given for Light Hearted Moments and acting. 0.5 not given for music and for improvement.

EK VILLAIN

For EK Villain I have to begin with the no idea dailogs...

what is remo the legendry goan singer doing in the film as villain ...no idea.

Shraddha kapoor ko aasi konsi jaan leva bimaari hai...jisse woh bach bhi jati hai...no idea.

why couldnt they get anybody else to play kamaal khans role... no idea. (He is seriosuly so sad and replusive).

Why is there a CBI officer with absolutely no strategy to catch the killer. no idea.

why does Siddarth Malhotra have only one expression on his face-- no idea.

was there any story in the movie- no idea...

why did prachi desai agree to do a sad item number- ofcourse the idea is that she must be getting any roles

and frankly speaking i dont even wanna get any idea coz its gonna total waste of time just like the movie.

Its mash up of 3 story tracks....a psycho killer(Ritesh Deshmukh)...a girl with terminal illness(Shaddha Kappoor) trying to fulfill her wishes and a gangster who falls in love with the girl changes coz of her love..phew. 

Story begins with Shraddha kapoors murder and then goes into flash back and the again forward and then again back and forward. she fulfills her wish of saving a life by changing the gangsta Siddharth into a changed human being. gets married comes to bombay get cured of terminal illess, Meawhile also gets pregnant. She tells gives this vital piece of information to the psycho killer while he attacks her...but he ruthlessly murders her

Why is Ritesh Deshmukh a psycho killer coz he is loser in his life and his wife and every other women in his day to day life taunts him in some or the other way. so he kills them as and when required. and then the remaining story is about avenging shraddha's murder. why m i mentioning the actors name and not the characters..coz i really dont remember. 

Ok so what do i remember. 

the songs

TERI GALIYAN GALIYAN TERI GALIYAN...(even Shraddha has sung well)

KOI MUJHKO YUN MILA HAI JAISI BANJARE KO GHAR..

the dailogues(simply coz they were repeated in the movie so many times)

ANDHERE KO ANDHERA NAHI ROSHNI HI MITA SAKTI HAI..

JAB TAK HUM KISIKE HAMDARD NAHI BANTE..HUM DARD SE AUR DARD HUMSE KABHI JUDA NAHI HOTA.(bit of a tongue twister there)

acting wise good to see Ritesh in a different role. played his part well. Shraddha has better expressions on her face as compared to ASHIQUI. she can do better. Sidharth malhotra has same and same expressions on face thru out the movie. gussa kab aata..dard kab mehsoos hota...khush kab hai.....kuch pata nahi chalta. he needs to buck up. 

Rating 2 out of 5. Story..bad acting and bad choice of actors are the main villains of the film. 

PS. tere was a trailer of HUMPTY SHARMA KI DULHANIA in the break. loved the trailer....both varun and alia seems to doing a good job in the film. and MY O MY SIDDARTH SHUKLA(balika vadhu fame)..loookssss...SMOKING HHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT. 

old reviews - PAA( written in 2009)

Saw PAA on Saturday. Just incase you dont knw , the movie is about a 12 yr old kid who is suffering from a disease called PROGERIA            

 

The Reviews of Paa will tell you that its an excellent movie and that every one has acted really well, especially Amitabh Bacchan, so much so that your heart goes out for the 12 year old AURO.

 

But when i saw the movie i not very satisfied and NO my did not go out for AURO.

 

Lemme tell you some good points about PAA. The treatment is very different. Its not a loud movie. Very suttle.

The parts were non- corrupt politician Abhishek Bacchan is trying to handle other corrupt politicians is shown very well.

Yes Abhishek Bacchan, Vidya Balan and Arundhati Nag (Vidya's mother in the film) and the child actors have done a good job.

The character of Arundhati Nag ( Who allows her daughter to bear a child out of wedlock ) has been shown as very balanced mother with a very modern attitude which come as a welcome change.

 

 

And for the not so good points.

Although the movie is good the extra songs could have been done away with. Only one song ( Udi Udi lingers in your mind even when you leave the theaters)

Yes the movie is subtle but it also very slow. So you feel bored and but you wait for the movie to get over anyways, just to kw what happens in the end and also because you have paid money for it.

I really cant say that Amitabh Bacchan has done justice to his role. Technically yes he has acted well. But some where that essence was missing.

It is really difficult to imagine amithabh bacchan as a 12 year old, even with the disease. It looked more like the Vidya balan and her mother are taking care of a 60 year old, old man rather than a child.

The agony and depression these children go through because they are different has not been captured.

How Abhishek Bacchan evolves a politician has been given more importance than how the 12 yr old grows up.

Last but not the least the movie seems more about the father meeting his son, the one which he never knew he had rather than a kid suffering from the disease of PROGERIA. Thats why probably it is named PAA. But even then that essence is not captured very well.

 

On the whole I would say it was a decent attempt to do something different and would appreciate the film makes and actors for their effort.But it could definitely have been better.

 

Now i feel the movie is being given importance more so because Amithabh bacchan has acted in it rather than the subject of the film.

 

These are just my views which i wanted to share, so that those of who have not seen the movie can decide whether  or not to watch the film in the theater and those of you who have seen the movie can share their views as well.

Hello people -  love reviewing the films that I have watched. most of the hindi movies dont go down well with me. or rather very few movies leave mark or make a difference. hence the title HINDI FILMON KI CHEER PHAAD AND MORE. And more? coz i will be talking about various things in movies that affect me- good bad or ugly.I actually do not follow a pattern while writing. I write as I feel. Starting with some reviews that i have written in the past , recent and onwards.
